The Clubhouse

Oldest Clubhouse in the World

The clubhouse has been carefully and lovingly restored to provide an attractive beamed lounge bar, a small but cosy spike bar and a restaurant overlooking the 18th green and fairway. The 15th century construction clubhouse offers great comfort and a welcoming atmosphere and was voted in the top ten 19th holes in the whole of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The Clubhouse

Welcoming Golfers Since 1924

The clubhouse is mentioned in the Domesday Book and it is recorded that the Manor was once a gift from William the Conquerer to his half-brother Bishop Odo. Our Club logo, a bishop's mitre, is a nod to this past history. Construction of the course, originally known as Shrub Hill, began in late 1923 at the instigation of George Reeves, a local builder. He commissioned two well-known professionals; James Braid -five times Open Champion - and Abe Mitchell, the North Foreland professional, to design the course that was opened for play on 16th April 1924.

History On The Walls

Our clubhouse is steeped in history and a great place to either sit inside and enjoy the warm cosy atmosphere in winter or outside in the summer sun on the patio and enjoy a well-earned drink. The inside clubhouse walls are covered with numerous shields showing competition winners and club officials going back a hundred years to 1924.

Restaurant

The restaurant at Chestfield Golf Club is an essential part of its operations and provides breakfasts, lunches, evening meals, weekend roasts, etc to its members, visitors, societies, matches and guests.
