Captain’s Speech 13/01/19

Good Afternoon

Club news

We have Burns night on 25th January and if you wish to attend please put your name down in a Goldfish Bowl.

Men’s Supper is on Friday 8th February, the list is full but we have 5 reserve spaces. For all those attending please note payment is due by 3rd February.

Simon and I are due to visit the Pilgrims Hospice on Monday 4th February where Simon will present his money raised from the Santa Run to the hospice.

I will give you an updated figure at the end of January but so far as a Club we have exceeded our expectations immensely and I would like to thank every member who continues to support this wonderful charity.

Captain/Pro match this week was against Rob Tucker and Colin Plews, which was the last leg of the trilogy as we had already put to sleep their friends Richard Miles, Dave Wells, Duane Harrison and Kerry Murray.

Apart from Kerry these were the two highest handicaps out of the group, but that was totally irrelevant as they managed to give us an absolute challenging game of golf.

If I told you Warren and I shot a net 59 and still managed only to halve the game that shows you the quality that Colin and Rob put together. I would again like to thank the very kind donation to the Pilgrims Hospice which is very much appreciated and also thank them for their humour, drink and
camaraderie throughout the match!

Mitrebeens

John had his Captain/Pro match this week against Rob Lane and Paul ‘let’s unlock the safe’ Gamble. Warren started with an Eagle at the 1st but after nine holes Warren and John were 2 down to this shrewd pair. A few more holes were halved but the match closed 4 & 2 with Rob and Paul victorious.

Rogue Gallery

The first one is a return of an old friend as we see Richard Miles finally finding his pet snake which had left him last summer sunbathing up the tree on the first! Just look at the enjoyment Richard has in his face at having found his only friend.

Here we will find the return of a regular member of rogue’s gallery in Paul ‘gunslinger’ Russell looking totally startled as he is spotted appearing from the 5th fairway to the sixth Green!

The next picture is very political as I totally disagree agree with the hat being worn by two of our senior members!

Now this picture needs some explaining as this is Martin Izzard opposite the ladies 5th tee looking for his drive off the men’s tee! When analysing this picture it does beggar belief that he has all those clubs in that bag yet he chose one that went off at right angles!

On a positive note it was great to see that Martin still scored a 7 for a point, well done Martin .

Picture very kindly supplied by our new cameraman Pete ‘little legs’Thomason

This was sent in by one of our regular cameraman which shows a golfer in the middle of nowhere playing to somewhere but we have no idea who this member is but he looks in total isolation as he enjoys himself😀

Here we find John Heffernan not managing to reach the ladies tee on 14 and judging by that swing will not manage to find the fairway!

The Raffle has restarted and we have a new twist!

Our first inaugural winner was Mark Cornell, who had the winning ticket but sadly for him picked out the king of spades. HOWEVER under the new rules that if you do not pick out the joker you then have a lucky dip of an envelope number between one and 20 which has a cash prize.

Mark managed to pick out an envelope with a £5 winning amount so not all was lost and this will now continue for the foreseeable future.

 Have a good golfing week.
