Captain’s Speech 28/04/19

It was a slightly jaded and tired speech this week,  I was feeling the full effects of the Shooters Hill match on Saturday.

Unfortunately as is normal we lost 6.5 -1.5, it sounds harsh but we do the same to them on the return leg at Chestfield.

My thanks go to Martyn Town and Neil Hatton for putting up with me during the PGA Qualifer Sunday,  it wasn’t my finest few hours.

I must make a point of the trolley signs on the fairways,  I saw a couple of people ignore the signs and continue to the greens not on the desired path.

Andy Bish stopped me after the speech and said he had witnessed the same.

The reason for diverting trolleys is to help the green staff with there on going works,  so please stop and follow the signs,  I’m hoping it was oversights.

There were no prize giving so it was a swift speech.

We did the club raffle and the pot stands at £136. Roger Burton was the lucky recipient with the ticket number 236. Roger pulled out the 4 of clubs so continued with the brown envelope draw for cash.

Ticket number 99 was selected with a prize of £10.

I found out last week, that long term member and helper of the Juniors George Hubbard was leaving Whitstable for a new adventure in Norfolk.

In true Warren style he jumped on this and a most of you will have seen,  Warren framed one of the water colour paintings of the club house and members were free to sign with good luck wishes.

George also handed me a envelope discretely and said that’s for your Captain’s charity, I didn’t open it  untill I got home but a massive thanks to George for donating £100 to the Pilgrims Hospice, you will be missed and I wish you well on your on your next chapter.

That’s it for this week,  have a great week.
