Derrick Clark

I have been a member of Chestfield golf club for 13 years now and in that time have been keen to support the club by attending social functions and representing it in friendly and league matches.

I started and continue to run one of the best supported days at the golf club which is the Kent v’s the Rest of the World competition where I encourage all sections of the golf club, Men. Ladies, Mitrebeens & Juniors to participate in the actual competition and then be joined by their other halves in the evening. This event has gone from strength to strength with numbers participating up at a 100 across the four sections of the club.

For the last 3 years I have served on committee and have taken the role of competition secretary. In this role I have re-introduced a number of partner’s drawn competitions which gives a fairer distribution of tee times and also has been instrumental in allowing new members to integrate by allowing them to play with a variety of existing members. I also re-invigorated the knockout rules and since then all 5 club knockouts competition have completed on time.

I have enjoyed my time as competition secretary and also representing members on the wider cub committee and would like the opportunity to continue that representation.

Martin Izzard

I am 60 years old, I have been married to the lovely Yvonne for 38 years and have two beautiful grown-up married daughters, one of whom has given me two grandsons to take up caddying for me in my old age. One of these is already working with Warren to become a better golfer than me.

I have been a member of Chestfield Golf Club for 15 years and was with Herne Bay Golf club for 15 years previously to that. I have a huge passion for the game and for the club and would relish the opportunity to become a member of the committee, in these exciting times, with the opening of the new Warren Bennett Golf Academy.

I would like to have the chance to have input into making both our course and our famous club house something all members can be proud of. I believe that my experience of the club and the people alongside my love of the game will be positive attributes I can bring to the committee.

Steve Snell

I have been an active member of Chestfield Golf Club since 2000 after leaving Herne Bay GC. I have lived in Chestfield for the past 24 years and represented the Club’s league teams on many occasions and have also helped run The Invicta League Team.

I have been on the Greens committee and Social committee over the past two years where I was also heavily involved in arranging new product suppliers and the leasing of all new machinery for the Greens Staff.

I attend many of the club’s social events and after being a member for 17 years I feel I would be a good candidate to join the committee.

Captain’s Speech 11/03/18

Good afternoon everybody.  It’s nice to see all your happy smiling faces having been away for a few weeks.  Thanks to our international man of mystery for stepping in a couple of weeks ago.  It seems that even God was surprised to see him at the club house so much so that divine intervention prevented a second consecutive visit, with snow closing the course!

After presenting the prizes for the recent team competition, we moved on to a few announcements.

Today Warren and I had a Captain Pro match against Del Clark and Dru Sait.  After going two down early on we made an effort to get back into the game and were all square after 10.  The match was hard fought for the remaining holes until Warren unfortunately slipped, on the 17th, while selecting a club from his bag, completing a move normally saved for Dancing on Ice!  The slip was significant enough to prevent the match from continuing and the boys decided we should call it a half.  I would say that Warren and I discussed this, once he had been transported back to the club house, and we felt that we were definitely finishing the stronger so will claim the win! (only joking).  Thanks to both Del & Dru for a great match.

Last weeks Bingo was very well supported and thanks goes to Barry Shepherd and his team who helped to raise £170 for the junior section.

There is a board up for the Captain’s Farewell do on the 24th March.  Please put your names down so that we can get an idea of numbers for catering.  Also, if you don’t come, I won’t leave, so it’s in your best interest to come down and enjoy a great social night.

The Captain’s Drive In is on the 31st of March.  Darren assures me that he will be here and you are all welcome to attend the now customary putt out and drive in of all of the Club’s Captains.

As a lot of you will know, the club enters teams in the Invicta and East Kent Leagues.  There is also a league, which the club has been part of since the early 1980’s, called the East Kent Alliance.  The last round was played on Thursday with us entering the final round 7 points clear of second place.  Well I am pleased to announce that the team were successful and ended up winning the overall competition, 9 points clear of second place.  Now, George Hubbard has been responsible for us entering the competition since its inception and having never won it before, I am extremely pleased to ask George to come up and collect the trophy.  My thanks goes to George who has now decided to hang up his hat and pass the running of the league over to someone else.  Congratulations to all who played and photos of some of the team members are below.

The list for people wanting to play in the Shooters Hill match is up in the goldfish bowl.  If you have never played before, please put your name down as it’s not the usual golf friendly.  The date for the game is 28th April and the first leg is a home leg.

The Captain/Pro sheet for next year will go up in the goldfish bowl after today’s presentation.  Please be quick as the list fills up quite quickly.

To finish, the Club Raffle.  The prize fund now stands at £374 for the lucky person who selects the joker.  The winning ticket is a white ticket with a yellow surround.  Number 3………..2……………9.  A regular winner, Alan Hall, approached the presentation area.  Once the jeers had died down Alan advised me that the winning ticket was one I managed to sell him without him really wanting it.  Buying a strip of 5 tickets makes the whole selling process quite simple.  However, picking up the book, there were two rogue tickets in the book.  I asked Alan if he had a spare £2 after he had brought his usual £5 worth.  He obliged by giving me £2, not necessarily realising he was buying more tickets!!  Anyway, Alan selected a card from the pack and continued to be successful by drawing the eight of hearts and thus maintaining his friendship with the gathered members!

Well that’s it from me this week.  Have a great week and see you next Sunday.
